PAY RANGE:
$17.60 - $21.11 OUTCOMES Work with children and adults in the Corps and community to plan and implement a music program which will include teaching theory, performance skills, music and values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Organize and lead groups of children in various activities (music, arts, games, worship, and recreation), promoting teamwork, safe behavior, and positive interaction while serving as a positive role model. Support music performances and activities that promote the mission and community presence of the Corps and encourage participation in summer camps for further skill development and spiritual growth. Supervise campers during all activities, including drop-off/pick-up, free time, transportation, and field trips, ensuring safety and reporting any incidents to the Camp Director. Maintain program records and attendance, assist with check-in and check-out procedures, follow camp policies and routines, and ensure activity spaces are clean and organized. Support and uphold the Christian emphasis and mission of The Salvation Army throughout all camp and program activities. Perform other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Under the general supervision of the Music & Arts Camp Director with some freedom to plan, schedule, and carry out responsibilities within established policies and guidelines. This individual relates to and interacts with a wide range of contacts both within and outside the Salvation Army. In these contacts they act as a representative of the Army and its mission.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 18 years old. High school diploma or GED certificate required. Proficiency in music theory and in a primary instrument. A degree within the field of Education preferred. Performance experience is preferred. Experience working with children. At least one year of experience in Christian youth work.
COMPETENCIES A
personal knowledge of music, including performance, education and theory. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Must be a team player, self-starter, and follow through with assignments until completion. A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities. A strong commitment to support and promote the mission of The Salvation Army. The ability to relate and minister to children as a teacher/mentor. A strong personal conviction of the mission of The Salvation Army.
POSITION LIMITATIONS
This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved. All Salvation Army owned equipment that is being used by the individual will be returned at the end of employment before the final check is issued. This individual will keep the Music & Arts Camp Director informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility. This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to do light physical work and must be able to lift 25 pounds. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use instruments and equipment needed in a music program. Frequent use of standard office equipment and a PC are also required. The work environment for this position includes a program environment with a moderate to high noise level. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect for others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
