Job Summary:
Teach elements of music through various applications and learning experiences. Develop appreciation, knowledge and skills in exploring and understanding music.
Job Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Instruction Teach skills in the appreciation, expression, and the organization of music. Utilize curriculum adopted by the Board of Education in alignment with the Illinois Learning Standards. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of elementary and junior high students. Utilize repertoire of various music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students. Teaching Responsibilities Create engaging experiences while providing a safe, and productive learning environment. Maintain effective classroom management through consistent procedures, expectations, and a positive culture. Assess each student's progress in music using a variety of formative and summative assessments. Professional Responsibilities Manage and inventory music equipment and supplies; including instruments, sheet music, ensuring proper care, organization, and maintenance. Responsibly maximize the efficiency of the music budget to enhance the music program. Plan, rehearse, and direct student performances in musical programs for school and community. Maintain professional competence through inservice education provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities related to music. Collaborate with the school community, building based specials PLC and general music PLC for ongoing professional development. Communicate timely and effectively with students, staff and families. Other responsibilities as assigned by building or district administration.
Minimum Requirements:
Professional Educator License - Music with grade range of current credentials or Special (Music) endorsement Displays adequate piano and musical skills and in addition to knowledge of classroom instruments
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel materials. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
