STARTING SALARY:

$52,918+ (based on experience) This is a full time position and is split between Choral (0.8) and General (0.2) Music at Prairie View Middle School. Must be licensed to teach both. Position comes with paid time off, paid holidays and is benefit eligible.

SUMMARY:

To develop in each student an interest in and the appreciation of music. Utilizes skills and techniques of music to discover and develop student talents in the fields of music (instrument and vocal).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Meets and instructs assigned classes. Plans, implements, reviews, and modifies curriculum to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Prepares lesson plans, selection and study of musical scores, and worksheets for the students. Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, work time, and assessment. Monitors district supplies including instruments, to prevent loss and abuse, and makes minor repairs when necessary. Coordinates all aspects of music performances including scheduling, lessons, rehearsal time, physical set-up, facility use, selection of music, preparing program, and publicity. Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops and implements individual education plans and 504 plans. Develops budget. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective and safe learning environment. Provides qualitative and quantitative feedback to students, participates in parent/teacher conferences and open houses. Attends staff and department meetings. Orders materials needed to teach music. Uses technology in the classroom and program. Continues professional growth.

EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in education at the appropriate music content area.

COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, peers, administrators, parents, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.

ANALYTICAL AND REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply principals of logical or scientific thinking to wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism and a wide variety of abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on district and building goals and the needs and abilities of the students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, parents, administrators, and community.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES

Must possess and maintain or be eligible to hold a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction license in the appropriate music content area, Codes 500, 505, 506, 510, 511, 515.
