Job Description

Part-Time Music Theory Instructor Position Overview:
ABC-Stewart School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Music Theory Instructor to join our elementary Montessori inspired school. This part-time position is an exciting opportunity to inspire young learners and foster a love for music through both theory and practice. The ideal candidate will integrate the principles of Montessori education into their teaching while nurturing students' creativity and musical growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Teaching:
Design and deliver engaging lessons in music theory and practice that align with Montessori principles, emphasizing exploration, independence, and hands-on learning.
Spring Program Coordination:
Develop and direct a spring play for elementary students, aligned with our 3-year culture and literature rotation. This year's theme is Early Man. The play can be an existing production or one you create, integrating music, storytelling, and historical context to bring the theme to life. Prepare students to perform in the play, guiding them in learning songs, musical accompaniment, and theatrical elements.
Holiday Performances:
Prepare students to perform a selection of songs for our Thanksgiving Feast and Valentine's Day Tea events, fostering community and celebration.
After-School Opportunities:
Host optional after-school music clubs or lessons to support students' interests in further developing their skills in music theory and performance. This could include ensemble groups, vocal coaching, or instrumental instruction.
Collaborative Integration:
Work closely with classroom teachers to align music lessons with broader curriculum themes, enhancing interdisciplinary learning and fostering connections across subjects.
Qualifications:
Classroom management skills are essential to maintain an engaging, respectful, and productive learning environment, ensuring that all students can thrive and participate fully in the music program. Background in music theory and education. Experience teaching elementary-aged children, with an ability to adapt to varying skill levels and interests. Strong organizational skills and creativity to plan and execute performances and programs. Enthusiasm for fostering a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
