26/27 School Year Instrumental Music Instructor (Band) Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Teach instrumental band courses for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, differentiated by skill level and developmental readiness. Provide instruction for jazz band, emphasizing improvisation, ensemble skills, and genre-specific techniques. Design and implement an adaptive music program that ensures equitable access and meaningful participation for students with diverse learning needs. Develop lesson plans aligned to state music standards and district curriculum expectations. Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies and provide timely feedback to students and families. Performance & Co-Curricular Activities Direct and supervise after-school pep band performances in support of school events and athletics. Prepare students for solo and ensemble participation, including repertoire selection, coaching, and adjudication readiness. Plan, rehearse, and conduct concerts and performances throughout the school year. Coordinate logistics for performances, including scheduling, communication, and student supervision. Program Management Manage and maintain musical instruments, equipment, and inventory. Select appropriate music and instructional materials that support technical growth and musical expression. Collaborate with administration and colleagues to support scheduling, recruitment, and retention of band students. Promote a positive and inclusive band culture that encourages student engagement and pride in the program. Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, administrators, and staff. Collaborate with other music educators and related service providers to support student success. Participate in professional development and contribute to school and district initiatives. Uphold school policies, procedures, and expectations for student safety and supervision.
