Teaching Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Neighborhood Charter Network seeks a passionate and student-centered Part-Time Instrumental Music Teacher to support middle school students in developing musical skills, musical literacy, performance competency, and confidence through instrumental instruction. The Instrumental Music Teacher will design and deliver engaging music instruction that promotes artistic expression, collaboration, and academic growth while aligning with the mission and values of the Neighborhood Charter Network. This position is responsible for building a positive classroom culture, fostering student engagement in music, and providing opportunities for performance and musical instruction. The ideal candidate believes in equitable access to the arts and is committed to supporting diverse learners in an inclusive school environment.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Instruction & Student Learning Plan and deliver standards-aligned instrumental music instruction for middle school students. Teach instrumental techniques and foundational music literacy skills across a variety of instruments (e.g., band, percussion, piano, guitar, or brass/woodwinds based on program needs). Provide both small-group and whole-group instruction differentiated for varying skill levels. Create an engaging, structured, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student participation and growth. Assess student progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to support musical development. Prepare students for performances, showcases, or school community events as appropriate. Program Development & Collaboration Collaborate with school leadership, classroom teachers, and network staff to support student success. Support the development and growth of the middle school instrumental music program. Maintain inventory and care of instruments, materials, and music resources. Participate in required staff meetings, professional development, and school events consistent with part-time expectations. School Community & Culture Uphold Neighborhood Charter Network expectations related to professionalism, student culture, and positive behavior supports. Foster a classroom environment grounded in respect, belonging, and high expectations for all students. Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and performance opportunities Other duties as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or related field. Demonstrated experience teaching or instructing instrumental music in a school, community, or youth program setting. Ability to teach one or more instrumental disciplines aligned with middle school programming needs. Strong classroom management and student engagement skills. Commitment to educational equity and culturally responsive teaching practices. Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills. Indiana teaching license or eligibility for licensure. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in urban, charter, or diverse school communities. Experience directing ensembles, bands, or student performances. Familiarity with music technology, digital notation, or recording tools. Prior middle school teaching experience.
