Department Summary The Bridgewater State University Department of Music is accredited by the National Association for Schools of Music (NASM) and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, our Bachelor of Music is known for its tremendous value in the region. Our undergraduate program provides a solid foundation of theory and history for music majors, while also allowing specializations in interest areas of your choice, from composition to conducting. The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Music program provides a dynamic and inspiring learning environment, offering you countless opportunities to work side-by-side with peers, experienced classroom teachers and dedicated faculty in a collegial and supportive atmosphere. Essential Duties Bridgewater State University seeks an Adjunct Instructor of Trombone for its Department of Music beginning in the Fall 2026 semester. This part-time faculty position requires a graduate degree in music at the time of hire as well as demonstrated experience teaching trombone students. Essential Functions Teaching The instructor will be required to teach private trombone lessons offered through the Music Department for both majors and non-majors.
Mentor upper class majors as assigned to trombone studio with 300 and 400 level recital preparation.
Instruct students in alignment with the Department of Music performance studies guidelines.
Meet Bridgewater State standards for course syllabi creation and submission, classroom management, use of technology, grade submission, and records management. Additional Opportunities Instructor may participate in audition days to assess incoming trombone candidates.
Instructor may be selected to offer performance labs as mutually agreed for additional compensation.
Instructor may be eligible for additional course teaching on a semester by semester basis.
Scheduling and Compensation This is a part-time position. Private lessons are typically scheduled Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each trombone student is assigned a weekly 50-minute individual lesson with the instructor and the instructor coordinates their schedule with the assigned students. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for student and studio recitals. The instructor's salary is calculated on a per student basis. Required Qualifications Candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching and performing in a variety of musical styles as well as a willingness and excitement to work with a diverse student population. The successful candidate will provide evidence of innovative teaching and curriculum development. Bridgewater teachers work to support students at all stages of the musical journey, from introductory to advanced. Candidates should have a graduate degree in music at the time of hire as well as demonstrated experience teaching trombone students.
