Aug 31, 2026 Job Description Elementary String Specialist Teacher (.2 FTE Instrumental)General Duties:
To foster in each student an appreciation of music as well as an ability to read and notate music in order to play instruments, alone or with others, performing a varied repertoire of music.Qualifications:
1. Hold or be eligible for MA Teacher of Music Certification; 2. Bachelor's Degree or higher in Music Education, or related field preferred; 3. Evidence of competence in instrumental music required; additional competency in other subjects desired; 4. Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, educational experience, school-level involvement and/or system-wide professional activities, and the interview process.Responsibilities:
1. Teach beginning string skills necessary for students to play independently and with accurate intonation, steady tempo, rhythmic accuracy, and appropriate technique; 2. Teach students to play expressively with appropriate dynamics, phrasing and articulation, and interpretation; 3. Instruct students to perform in groups, blending instrumental timbres, matching dynamic levels, and responding to the cues of a conductor; 4. Instruct students to perform independent instrumental parts while other students play contrasting parts; 5. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsal, and musical performance; 6. Evaluate each student's musical growth and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to the performances; 7. Plan, rehearse and direct students in musical programs for school and community; 8. Cooperate with the school administration in providing and leading musical programs for school/community productions; Winter, Spring, and All-Town String Concerts. 9. Participate in curriculum and program development; 10. Maintain currency in profession through relevant professional development activities; 11. Perform other duties as directed by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.Position Type:
