The major responsibility of the position is to plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program according to the guidelines provided by the O'Neal School curriculum which guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The person in this position should be innovative, creative, and passionate about inspiring a love of music. This position has the potential to work across all grade levels of the School (Pre-K through Grade 12) to introduce and lead an instrumental program (band or orchestra). A strong vision and enthusiasm for developing an introduction to musical instruments is fundamental to this role. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Have knowledge of, uphold, model, and communicate the mission of The O'Neal School. Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons appropriate to each class. Assess, record, and report on the development and progress of students. Stay abreast of developments in the field through reading, research, and professional development, including faculty development days. Liaise and collaborate with colleagues, including Division Head, Department Chairs, fellow teachers, counselor, and other resources. Sponsorship and organization of student extracurricular activities including student performances throughout the year, partnership with Arts Department in annual school musical, and leadership of student instrumental program(s). Ability to work closely and pair with fellow music teacher
Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Music A Master's degree in Music Education is preferred. Proficiency in a musical instrument. Vocal performance experience, as a singer, vocal coach, and/or choral director. Previous experience teaching K-12 music. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills related to interactions with students, parents, and fellow teachers. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Attention to detail, strong organization skills, and an adherence to timeliness.
