Job Description

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
KCS is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) multi-service organization founded in 1973 and supported by government agencies, foundations, corporations, and individuals. Through programs in social services, education, culture, public health, and workforce development, KCS serves the Korean and greater community across New York and New Jersey.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The NJ Education Department is seeking a talented and dedicated Cello Instructor to lead engaging music lessons for students in elementary school and above in Tenafly, NJ. The instructor will develop and teach a curriculum that introduces students to cello techniques, music theory, and performance skills. The ideal candidate will foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment while helping students build confidence and a love for music.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach engaging cello lessons tailored to students of varying ages and skill levels.
  • Develop and implement a curriculum focused on cello technique, music theory, and performance.
  • Demonstrate proper posture, bowing, fingering, and other playing techniques.
  • Provide constructive feedback to support each student's musical growth.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and structured classroom environment.
  • Manage classroom behavior independently while encouraging creativity and teamwork.
  • Set up and clean up the classroom before and after each lesson.
  • Ensure proper care and organization of instruments and materials.
  • Prepare students for music recitals and participate in recital activities as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS
    Education:
    Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field; specialization in cello performance or string pedagogy preferred.
      Experience:
      At least 1-2 years of teaching experience (individual or group instruction) preferred.
        Instructional Skills:
        Ability to create engaging, interactive lessons that build confidence and technical skill.
          Classroom Management:
          Ability to foster a positive and structured learning environment.
            Language Skills :
            Fluency in English required; bilingual in Korean is a plus but not required.
              Availability :
              Must be able to commute to Tenafly, NJ, and teach in person.

              COMPENSATION
              $40/hr - $50/hr
