Main Purpose of Role:
This role is part of Léman Manhattan's vibrant, collaborative learning community, which delivers an engaging and academically rigorous program for all students. Key Responsibilities:
(The primary tasks, functions and deliverables of the role) Directs two Middle School Bands Teaches group lessons to Middle School students on woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments from beginner to intermediate levels Teaches two High School music electives: HS Band 1 and Digital Music Directs school concerts as well as off-campus performances Prepares students for NYSSMA solo and ensemble festivals Supports and sponsors activities/events outside of the typical school day, including directing one after-school ensemble and possible private lesson teaching Being a collaborative, contributing team member of the Fine Arts Department as well as the Middle and High School divisions Grows professionally in order to meet the changing responsibilities of the position Utilizes learning management and student information systems provided by the school Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school; demonstrates behavior that is professional as identified in our Employee Handbook (inside and outside of school) Continues to grow professionally in order to meet the changing responsibilities of the position by participating in educational opportunities, reads professional publications, and participates in professional organizations Demonstrates flexibility and a positive attitude toward new challenges and growth opportunities Supports and sponsors activities/events outside the typical work day Completes a minimum of two duties as assigned by Division Head (number of duties may vary depending on role) Attends and participates in all required faculty and staff meetings and serves on school committees as required Completes responsibilities as assigned by Division Head or direct supervisor based on student and school needs (e.g. test proctoring)
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree preferred); Music Education degree preferred; Brass major preferred Experience in teaching Middle and High School music students in a school setting Experience in teaching woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments Experience in directing large ensembles Experience in using technology in the music classroom Strong classroom management skills in large group settings Familiarity with curriculum design Ability to work well individually and as part of a team Strong interpersonal skills Strong writing skills Commitment to the school's mission, core values, and inclusion statement
