26/27 Traveling Band TeacherPosition Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated band teacher to join our faculty and co-teach with site faculty at all 4 of our middle schools and both high schools. The teacher will travel between sites each week on a regular schedule, so reliable transportation is a must. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional musical skills, a deep understanding of program development, and the ability to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for a diverse student population. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and demonstrate outstanding classroom management skills.Responsibilities:
Instruction:
Provide instruction as team teacher at district middle schools and high schools for both concert band season and marching season. Develop and implement a comprehensive band curriculum that aligns with state standards and district goals. Provide engaging and effective instruction in band instrument techniques to students at assigned school sites Foster a love and appreciation for music among students through creative teaching methods and diverse repertoire selection. Participate in the annual All-City band concert and attend all rehearsals and performances Attend all required Professional Development opportunities and seek out professional development opportunities to continue to growProgram Building and Development:
Work collaboratively with the band faculty to ensure continuity and progression in the music program from 6th grade through high school. Actively recruit and retain students for the band program through outreach efforts and participation in recruitment events.Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to integrate music education into interdisciplinary projects and initiatives. Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, administrators, and community members regarding program activities, student progress, and performance opportunities. Seek feedback from stakeholders and use it to continually improve the band program and enhance student learning experiences. Support colleagues in the band faculty by attending and supporting middle school and high school concerts whenever possibleClassroom Management and Discipline:
Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and musical growth. Implement consistent and fair discipline procedures that promote student accountability and respect for others. Manage instructional time effectively, ensuring that all students have opportunities for individual and ensemble practice.Inclusive Programming Practices:
Design and implement inclusive programming practices that accommodate the diverse needs and abilities of all students. Provide differentiated instruction and support services to students with special needs or English language learners, ensuring equitable access to music education. Foster a culture of acceptance, respect, and collaboration among students of different backgrounds, cultures, and identities.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field. Valid state teaching certification or eligibility for certification. Demonstrated proficiency in multiple band instruments and ensemble settings. Previous classroom band teaching experience is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and community members. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to manage a classroom effectively and maintain a positive learning environment. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in music education.
