Aug 20, 2026 Job Description South Umpqua School District is seeking a Music Teacher to serve students in grades 6-12 at our middle schools and South Umpqua High School. This position is responsible for teaching instrumental music, directing band programs, and helping students develop their musical skills and confidence through performance and instruction. We are looking for a teacher who enjoys working with students, builds positive relationships, and is committed to creating a supportive learning environment. The ideal candidate will work to strengthen connections between our middle school and high school music programs and encourage student participation in music throughout their school years.
Duties/Assignment:
Plan and deliver music instruction for students in grades 6-12. Direct and develop instrumental music programs at both the middle school and high school levels. Teach and conduct middle school and high school band ensembles, including concert performances and festivals. Organize and direct the high school pep band program, supporting school spirit and participation at athletic and community events. Lead and develop choir/vocal music opportunities for students, including performances and concerts. Recruit and retain students in music programs while building strong connections between middle school and high school music experiences. Communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and community members regarding program activities and expectations. Maintain music equipment, instruments, music library materials, and program inventory. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or superintendent
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree. 2. Criminal history clearance. 3. Valid Oregon Teaching License with proper endorsement.
Start Date:
August 20,2026 This is a full-time benefited position. Benefit package includes medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; employer-paid PERS, as well as a tuition reimbursement program. Salary placement is based on level of education and years of experience.
