Job Description
The High School Music Teacher will be responsible for teaching high school band, chorus, piano, and music-related coursework while directing performances and cultivating a culture of musical excellence and student participation.
The ideal candidate understands that great music programs are built one student at a time through recruitment, retention, positive relationships, and meaningful performance experiences.

Primary Responsibilities
Band and Choral Program Leadership
Direct and develop high school concert band and choral ensembles
Plan and implement effective weekly rehearsal schedules that maximize instructional time and student growth
Select appropriate, engaging, and challenging literature for high school band and chorus ensembles
Prepare students for concerts, performances, festivals, and community events
Develop strategies to recruit and retain student musicians and singers
Classroom Instruction
Teach music courses that may include band, chorus, piano, music theory, and other music electives
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying musical backgrounds and abilities
Integrate music theory, music history, performance skills, and musicianship into instruction
Utilize technology to enhance music learning and performance
Program Development
Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues
Collaborate with elementary, middle school, and theatre arts faculty to create a cohesive K-12 performing arts experience
Support student transitions from elementary and middle school music programs into high school ensembles
Contribute to the continued growth and visibility of the performing arts at LVA
IB and Collaborative Culture
Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning within the IB framework
Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in designing engaging learning experiences
Participate actively in school events, performances, and professional learning opportunities
Required Qualifications
Pennsylvania Music PK-12 Certification (or ability to obtain Pennsylvania certification)
Bachelor's Degree in Music Education or related field
Demonstrated experience directing both band and choral ensembles
Strong piano proficiency for classroom instruction, accompaniment, and rehearsals
Knowledge of music theory, music technology, and contemporary music education practices
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience developing and managing effective rehearsal schedules
Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
All required Pennsylvania clearances
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching high school band and chorus
Experience teaching piano and music theory courses
Experience using modern music technology, recording software, notation software, and digital music platforms
Experience collaborating with theatre arts programs and interdisciplinary arts initiatives
Evidence of successfully increasing student participation, retention, and performance quality within a music program
