Aug 1, 2026 Job Description Job Overview The distance learning teacher plans, designs, implements, and assesses an appropriate instructional program in an elementary level distance learning environment that guides and encourages a diverse group of students at all instructional levels to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The teacher designs learning experiences, creates, and reinforces classroom expectations, develops assessments, monitors student progress, and communicates regularly with parents on student progress. At the elementary level, the teacher may be assigned to teach students from Kindergarten through fifth grade. Teachers are expected to promote an environment that is challenging, equitable, empowering, and developmentally responsive. The teacher helps build on elementary level fundamentals and prepares students through a variety of curriculum pathways available. The teacher motivates students by creating learning experiences that are authentic, engaging, rigorous and relevant. Roles and Responsibilities The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate: Establishes a safe and supportive environment that is conducive to learning and enables each student to demonstrate agency, ownership, and reflection. Designs and implements authentic and engaging learning experiences using the Virginia Standards of Learning, LCPS curriculum, and effective distance learning strategies to maximize student achievement using a variety of instructional materials. Designs and implements authentic and engaging learning experiences using a variety of resources and technology to promote the development of critical thinking, collaboration, and problem solving. Personalized instruction based upon the needs of students and manages time to maximize student learning opportunities. Assesses student growth as related to educational goals, objectives, and outcomes. Adheres to LCPS Assessment and Grading policy and guidelines. Analyzes assessment data to refine teaching and learning experiences and inform instructional practices. Continually communicates with students and parents/guardians to keep them informed of the students' progress in meeting instructional objectives. Engages and manages the behavior of online learners in an instructional setting to ensure the online environment is conducive to learning. Plans instructional activities with other professional staff, both program- and non-program-based, to maximize learning opportunities. Supports colleagues, students, parents, and community stakeholders to promote student learning and student mastery of content and competencies. May direct the work of teacher assistants, student teachers, and volunteers to provide an effective learning environment. Participates actively in the program's professional learning community, to deepen the professional expertise in curriculum, content, competencies, and assessments that measure lesson/unit mastery through distance learning. Qualifications Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable. Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college Experience N/A Licenses and Certifications Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license, with an endorsement to teach in Music Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs in a distance learning environment Skilled in the use of multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications, excellent human relations skills Excels in the distance learning environment as a teacher and collaborator Physical requirements The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this job: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Remote Work Disclosure The following guidelines apply to jobs and positions where employees have been identified as having the potential to work remotely. Remote work is defined as completing one's duties and responsibilities at a site other than one's assigned duty location. In order to be eligible for remote work privileges, an employee must have demonstrated consistent, positive performance and have the support and approval of their direct supervisor. In addition, these employees must have reliable high-speed internet and a designated workspace that allows them privacy while completing sensitive and confidential work. Employees who are non-exempt and are working remotely will work their regular scheduled hours and gain prior approval from their supervisor if they work more than 8 hours a day or more than 40 hours in a workweek. Remote work privileges can be amended, changed, or revoked based upon theperformance of the employee, as well as the needs of Loudoun County Public Schools. This position is eligible for remote work, but also may require in-person attendance at job-related meetings, training sessions, and conferences, as requested by the employee's supervisor. Candidate must live within a commutable distance of Loudoun County Public Schools. This is an EOY -End of Year contract position Reports to: Principal
