SouthSide is seeking a part-time Music Teacher (1 day per week) to provide engaging, standards-based music instruction to students in grades K-5. Candidates must have a growth mindset and be willing to do whatever it takes to put all students on a path to college and community leadership. Students learn to read, write, think logically, and problem solve on grade level within a curriculum that emphasizes academic rigor, excellence, and community engagement. Our Values Working relentlessly to ensure that every student is on the path to college and community leadership Holding high expectations for every student with an unwavering focus on achievement Using data to drive instruction and improve outcomes Engaging students in hands-on, experiential learning Embracing a growth mindset and solutions-oriented thinking Understanding the importance of rigor, relevance, and relationships Position Summary The part-time Music Teacher provides engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction to students in grades K-5 one day per week. The teacher is responsible for planning and delivering standards-based lessons that build students' musical skills, creativity, and appreciation for music. The Music Teacher collaborates with classroom teachers and school leadership to support a positive school culture and contributes to school-wide events and performances when appropriate. The Music Teacher reports to the Director/Head of School or designee . Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction and Curriculum Plan and deliver high-quality, standards-based music instruction for students in grades K-5. Develop lessons that include singing, rhythm, movement, instruments, and music appreciation. Create a joyful, engaging classroom environment that fosters student participation and confidence. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including multilingual learners and students with varying abilities. Incorporate culturally responsive and diverse musical content. Classroom Environment and Culture Establish clear expectations and routines that promote a positive, respectful learning environment. Use effective classroom management strategies to maximize instructional time. Build strong relationships with students and foster a love of music and performance. Assessment and Student Growth Monitor student progress through informal and formative assessments. Provide feedback to students to support growth in musical skills and participation. Communicate relevant student progress or concerns with classroom teachers and school leadership. Collaboration and School Engagement Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support student needs. Participate in school-wide events, performances, or showcases as appropriate for the role. Support school culture through music-related contributions (e.g., assemblies, celebrations). Professional Responsibilities Maintain appropriate lesson plans and instructional materials for assigned classes. Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and strong communication. Uphold school policies, procedures, and expectations. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and school guidelines.
Qualifications Required :
Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field. Experience working with elementary-aged children. Strong classroom management and organizational skills. Ability to engage and motivate young learners through music.
Preferred :
Rhode Island certification in Music Education (or eligibility). Experience teaching in an urban or diverse school setting. Ability to play an instrument and/or lead vocal instruction. Experience preparing students for performances.
