Job Description
Trinitas Classical Academy (TCA) Overview The principal objective at Trinitas is to train young men and women to think clearly and listen carefully with discernment and understanding; who reason persuasively and articulate precisely; who are capable of evaluating their entire range of experience in light of the Scriptures, and who do so with eagerness in joyful submission to God. We desire our students to recognize cultural influences in the light of Scripture, and not to be swayed or tempted towards evil by their culture. We hope, by God's grace, to raise up young men and women who are zealous for truth, hungry for goodness, and sensitive to beauty. Why Teach at TCA? At Trinitas, music is not an elective-it is part of the fabric of a classical Christian education. Music trains the ear and the soul. It is a language that points to order, beauty, and the nature of God Himself. Our students sing together, learn to read music, study the history and theory of Western musical tradition, and encounter the great composers as part of their broader formation. The music teacher at TCA plays a meaningful role in shaping how students understand beauty and participate in it. This is a position for someone who sees music not just as a skill to be taught, but as a gift to be stewarded for the glory of God. TCA offers a pro-rated tuition benefit for staff children-for a family with one or more students enrolled, this benefit can represent significant value. Position Overview The principal objective for our Music Teacher is to cultivate in students a love for music and an understanding of its place within God's created order. Through general music instruction across all grade levels (K-12), this teacher will guide students in developing musical literacy, vocal and listening skills, and an appreciation for music as a reflection of beauty and truth. The ideal candidate will demonstrate love for children, a passion for music education, and a deep commitment to TCA's classical Christian mission. What to Expect in This Role Our music program spans the full grammar, logic, and rhetoric stages of classical education, and instruction should be tailored accordingly. In the lower grammar years, expect singing games, solfege, basic rhythm work, and exposure to great composers and their stories. In upper grammar and logic stages, students move into more formal music theory, part-singing, and deeper engagement with Western musical heritage. In the rhetoric stage, students are capable of more nuanced discussion of music's place in culture, history, and worship. A typical week will include 2 to 3 days, each with approximately 5 class periods and an included planning period. The teacher will also be expected to contribute to school performances and special events throughout the year. Position Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging general music lessons for students in K-12, differentiated appropriately for each stage of classical education (grammar, logic, rhetoric) Instruct students in the fundamentals of music including solfege, music theory, rhythm, sight-reading, vocal technique, and active listening Introduce students to the Western musical tradition-its great composers, historical periods, and major works-as part of their broader classical formation Integrate a Biblical worldview throughout all music instruction, helping students understand music as a gift from God, a reflection of His order and beauty, and a vehicle for worship and cultural participation Lead or support vocal and choral instruction across grade levels, including preparation for school performances and events Create and maintain a safe, joyful, and orderly classroom environment that encourages participation and musical risk-taking Model good character, self-control, and a contagious love of music in all interactions with students Build positive, encouraging relationships with students and their families; use discipline consistent with TCA's restorative approach Collaborate with classroom teachers and other faculty to connect music with history, literature, theology, and the fine arts where natural connections exist Maintain accurate student records in the school's database system Attend required staff meetings, training sessions, and school events as designated before and during the school year
Qualifications/Personality Profile:
Formal training in music education, music performance, or a closely related field; candidates with equivalent experience and demonstrated teaching ability will also be considered Experience teaching music in a K-12 setting, with the ability to adapt instruction effectively across a wide range of ages and developmental stages Familiarity with or training in classical Christian education strongly preferred; candidates new to the model who demonstrate strong aptitude and genuine interest will be considered Proficiency in vocal instruction and music theory; ability to play piano or another accompanying instrument is a significant plus A strong, active Christian faith demonstrated in daily life and professional practice A genuine and evident love for children and a sense of calling to serve them Strong communication and relationship-building skills with students, families, staff, and administration Organized, consistent, and able to follow through-class-to-class and season-to-season Energetic and enthusiastic about inspiring a genuine love of music in students at every levelSimilar jobs in Franklin, TN
