Job Description

Position Overview The Dallas School of Music is seeking a qualified and dependable brass educator to join our faculty. Since 1992, DSM has provided structured, professional music instruction through a faculty of experienced educators committed to long-term student development. This appointment is ideal for teachers seeking a stable, professional teaching environment supported by established administrative systems, consistent enrollment, and clear instructional expectations. This is a faculty appointment for educators who value consistency, professionalism, and meaningful student progress over time. Faculty work with both children and adults across a wide range of experience levels, from beginning students to advanced musicians. Faculty Responsibilities Provide structured, individualized private instruction for students of varying ages and ability levels Develop foundational technique, musicianship, and performance skills Maintain a consistent weekly teaching schedule Prepare students for recital participation as part of the learning process Communicate clearly and professionally with students and families Track student progress and provide ongoing instructional direction Uphold DSM's instructional standards and professional expectations Qualifications Demonstrated experience teaching private brass lessons (trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and related brass instruments) Ability to work effectively with both children and adult students Strong organizational skills and professional reliability Understanding of structured, progressive music instruction Bachelor's degree in music, music education, performance, or a related field required Availability Requirements Minimum availability of two teaching days per week Availability must include at least one afternoon and one evening teaching block Consistent weekly availability required Appointment & Compensation This is a 1099 independent contractor faculty appointment. Compensation is structured within DSM's faculty pay framework and is determined based on experience, demonstrated teaching ability, and alignment with the DSM instructional model. Competitive hourly rates Ongoing student placement and studio development based on instructor availability and scheduling commitment Administrative support for scheduling and enrollment Advancement within the compensation structure is based on demonstrated teaching effectiveness, consistency, student retention, and alignment with the DSM instructional model.
