Job Description

SUMMARY This position is for a part-time (two days, 16 hours, per week) music teacher. Minimum of two years of experience teaching music to children is preferred. Sponsors activities such as school plays and other musical performances as assigned
JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for the daily assessing, planning, and organizing of teaching activities and providing appropriate innovative instruction based on student needs. Fosters a community of learners where the teacher becomes a facilitator of learning, a mentor, and a coach. Creates a positive learning environment that impacts all students with the opportunity to develop autonomy, openness, integrity, collaborative skills, and creativity. Possesses the ability to communicate effectively with peers, teachers, and persons with advanced levels of expertise in common areas of interest and involvement. Develops programs for students with special needs. Reports to the CEO of the SFA Charter School and the academic coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS
Some college coursework and/or related work experience is required. One year of effective classroom teaching experience is required. Experience acquired during student teaching, internships, and other related classroom teaching can be considered to meet the experience requirement.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Plans and uses appropriate instructional learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and meet the needs of assigned students. Develops and implements TEKS based lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of campus curricula and shows written evidence of preparation as required. Works cooperatively to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Works with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to campus requirements. Uses technology to strengthen the learning environment. Assists in the management of the daily attendance and other classroom routines. Conducts ongoing informal and formal TEKS based assessment of student achievement to guide instruction and inform stakeholders. Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsors activities approved by CEO. Implements a facilitator/mentor style of instruction to create a classroom environment conducive to learning along with physical, social, and emotional development of students. Professionally manages classroom/students in accordance with established policies and procedures. Establishes and maintains open effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and the community. Stays abreast of and complies with all school, university, state and federal regulations and policies. Compiles and maintains required reports, records, and other documents. Participates fully in parent involvement activities
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Attends and fully participates in meetings and serves on staff committees as required. Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Participates in and fully implements professional development activities to improve instruction. Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures. Thorough knowledge of child growth and development. Strong teaching skills. Effective organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to maintain appropriate classroom management. Ability to work effectively with parents and fellow teachers/administrators. Ability to operate a personal computer with general understanding of application software and the Internet.

School calendar year consists of 187 days.
