The Department of History, Humanities, & Languages at the University of Houston-Downtown is seeking applicants for a Lecturer position beginning August 2026. This is a one-year, non-tenure track position that will entail teaching 15 semester credit hours (five classes) per semester for our department, as well as minimal departmental service.Qualifications:
The candidate must have at least an M.A. in Philosophy, while a Ph.D. degree is preferred A strong record of teaching undergraduate courses in Philosophy Ability to teach at least two of our three General Education classes: Intro to Philosophy, Contemporary Ethical Issues, The Meaning of Life Ability to teach both face-to-face and online asynchronous modalities. Required Attachments by Candidate Current curriculum vitae Cover letter that speaks to the required and preferred qualifications A statement of teaching philosophy emphasizing instructional strategies and student engagement Applicants are not required to submit reference letters with the initial application. However, candidates selected for further consideration will be asked to arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the Search Committee Chair at a later stage in the process.
