TEACHER - ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION - SPECIAL SERVICES DIVISION

NOTE:
These positions are based at our Central Office Location. Travel to different schools is required. The duties include but are not limited to: Teaches knowledge, skills, and understanding of topics included in the curriculum of health, safety, and physical education. Develops and follows approved lesson plans as directed by principal or department chairman. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. Works cooperatively with other health and physical education teachers in planning a comprehensive program that includes accommodations and/or modifications for disabled students. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of games, rhythms, fundamentals of body movement as well as individual team sports. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in the classroom, gym or on the field, and during school sponsored activities. Maintains required inventory records as well as assists in the selection of supplies, equipment, and instructional materials. Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property and makes minor repairs of supplies and equipment as needed. Maintains records such as attendance, grades, medical exceptions, and phone logs on a continual basis. Provides appropriate safety instructions and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students. Maintains professional competence by attending workshops, seminars, and conferences provided by the district and/other professional organizations. Evaluates each student's performance, knowledge, and skills in keeping with existing guidelines and policy. Assists with the development of IEP goals. Consults with other professionals and paraprofessionals regarding modification of existing programs. Other duties as assigned by the administration.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a Valid Alabama Teaching Certification in Physical Education. Must have the ability to adapt curriculum for physically challenged students. Duty Days 187
Salary Range:
From/To As per MCPSS Salary Matrix, depending on degree and experience. Additional Job Information •Applicants selected for certified positions must have undergone an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and been declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.•
