DESCRIPTION OF THE DISTRICT

: The Brandon School District is a mid-size school district nestled in Northwest Oakland County. The district has approximately 1,000 students in junior kindergarten-5th grade between the two elementary schools, approximately 600 at the middle school level and approximately 850 at the high school. This small, tight knit community has a strong connection to its schools and is passionate about the education of its youth. Brandon High School sends 85-90% of its graduates to post-secondary school each year, it was ranked in the 82nd percentile of all schools in the State on the top-to-bottom rankings and it was awarded as a Silver Medal Winner by the US News. Our elementary schools are both one-to-one technology are each near the 83rd percentile in State rankings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with the proper Elementary Education endorsement Additional endorsement in Health and Physical Education preferred Experience working with elementary-aged children preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with students, parents and district staff Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment Ability to manage all aspects of the position which includes interacting with students during the day, and time for planning and grading

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

: Instruct young students in physical fitness, motor skills, sportsmanship and teamwork Design engaging, age-appropriate activities such as fitness games or fundamental movements Create fun, active and inclusive lessons for all fitness levels Educate students on healthy lifestyles and fostering an interest for physical activity Promote teamwork, leadership and positive sportsmanship in games Stay updated on best practices in health and physical fitness Communicate regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports Plan and coordinate the work of parapros, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips Other duties may be assigned
