A competent Physical Education and Health Education Teacher understands growth and development, demonstrates knowledge of what is to be taught and facility in the basic skills and helps students to develop positive self-concepts. The Physical Education and Health Education Teacher stimulates the independence of each student as a learner, effectively assesses student needs and progress, and plans instruction to achieve selected objectives, including those appropriate for special education students. The Physical Education and Health Education Teacher accomplishes these objectives through effective communication with students, parents and colleagues, and through the use of appropriate techniques and materials in a positive climate where time, space and equipment are effectively organized for instruction.QUALIFICATIONS
A valid Connecticut teacher certificate in Physical Education (044) and Health Education (043) is required. Middle School experience preferred.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of Physical Education and Health Education curriculum Develops and administers Physical Education and Health Education curriculum and lesson plans consistent with school district vision, mission, goals and objectives. Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs. Integrates technology, including Google Classroom, seamlessly into teaching strategies and practices. Establishes classroom management and organization Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws. Creates and maintains a positive climate where time and materials are effectively organized for instruction. Maintains proper professional conduct as defined in the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibilities for Teachers Effectively implements instructional plans and uses appropriate instructional techniques. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Coordinates with other professional staff members and participates in faculty meetings and committees. Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Superior communication skills (oral and written). Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Student Information Systems (i.e. Power School); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position. Demonstrated excellence in teaching the subject area(s) and/or instructional levels targeted. Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers and educational assistants. Evidence of organizational ability and willingness to pursue tasks to successful completion. Superior communication skills (oral and written).
