Seasonal Position Overview:
Enfield Public Schools is seeking a committed and adaptable Long-Term Substitute Physical Education Teacher for the secondary level to support comprehensive health and wellness instruction. This temporary assignment requires an educator who can implement developmentally appropriate physical education practices, promote lifelong fitness skills, manage active learning environments safely, and engage students through inclusive and motivating instruction. The ideal candidate will foster positive student relationships, adapt instruction to diverse needs, and collaborate with colleagues to support student growth and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver standards-aligned secondary physical education lessons that promote physical literacy, fitness, teamwork, and personal responsibility. Implement best practices for adolescent learners, including differentiated instruction, student choice, and inclusive activities that engage all ability levels. Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment using proactive behavior management and clear safety procedures. Utilize formative assessment strategies to monitor student participation, skill development, and fitness progress. Integrate instructional technology, fitness tracking tools, or digital platforms as appropriate to support student learning. Promote social-emotional learning, sportsmanship, and respectful peer interactions. Adapt activities and instruction based on space, equipment, weather, and student needs. Collaborate with fellow educators, administrators, and support staff to maintain continuity of instruction and align with school expectations. Uphold district policies, public school standards, and health and safety regulations at all times.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field. Valid teaching certification preferred; eligibility for a long-term substitute authorization required. Experience teaching physical education at the middle or high school level is strongly preferred. Knowledge of secondary PE curriculum, fitness principles, and adolescent development. Strong classroom and activity management skills in large-group and movement-based settings. Effective communication, teamwork, and adaptability in a dynamic school environment.
