Job Description

Adjunct instructor needed in Health/Physical Education for the following courses for Fall 2026 (8/25/26 to 12/13/26) Applications will be accepted until May 22 , 2026 or until the position is filled. HPE 441 Teaching, Organization and Administration of Elementary Physical Education (course meets Wednesday 4-5:15 PM (Lecture) and then in the public school Physical Education Classes (Lab) throughout the week as scheduled. 3 credits.
Course Description :
This is a senior seminar course taken by undergraduate teacher certification candidates in health/physical education immediately prior to the student teaching semester. Planning, organizing, administering, and conducting a program of physical education in the elementary school. The lecture portion covers the scope and sequence of skill themes and movement concepts in the elementary school program. The seminar course lab portion is conducted in an elementary school setting under the direction of a certified Physical Education Teacher who teaches in that school. Teacher candidates will observe, plan, teach, and assess P-6 students in the classroom under the supervision of the course instructor.
Qualifications :
Applicants must have at least 10 years of teaching experience in P-6 Physical Education. Applicants must have a master's degree or higher in physical education (or related field) from a regionally accredited institution. Teaching assignments are part-time, on a semester basis only, and are dependent on student enrollment and department needs. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Teach 3-credit course on campus consistently during the scheduled time; Supervise Eastern Teacher Candidates in regular weekly lab experiences in public school physical education classes scheduled as available; Prepare lectures, projects, homework, assessments, and other student assignments that align with the course syllabus; Grade all students in a timely manner; Must be able to organize and set up typical physical education equipment; Provide appropriate feedback to students to promote academic success; Learn and use technology resources offered at Eastern to facilitate teaching; Monitor Eastern email and respond to inquiries within a reasonable time; Comply with all departmental requirements; and Provide an atmosphere that supports student success.
