Contract Early Childhood Physical Education and Wellness Consultant Position Overview:
As an Early Childhood Physical Education Teacher and Wellness Consultant, you will work in a high-quality early childhood development center with children from birth through five and their teachers. You will lead the gross motor skill lessons from groups of eight to nine children in collaboration with their lead and assistant teachers in fifteen to twenty minute sessions. This position is responsible for supporting children's social and emotional development as well as their physical development.
Scope of Work:
Co-Teaching & Classroom Support:
Collaborate with the lead education teacher to plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriate physical activities and games for young children.
Lesson Planning & Implementation:
Assist in designing and delivering engaging, age-appropriate lessons that focus on developing fundamental motor skills, physical fitness, coordination, and teamwork.
Child Development Understanding:
Support children in developing not only physical skills but also social-emotional skills, such as cooperation, respect, and resilience, through physical activities.
Student Assessment & Feedback:
Observe and assess children's progress in motor skills and physical development. Provide constructive feedback to students to encourage their growth.
Behavior Management:
Implement strategies for maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment, including supporting individual student needs.
Professional Development:
Participate in regular training, mentorship sessions, and reflective practice discussions to develop skills and knowledge specific to early childhood physical education.
Family & Community Engagement:
Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, and participate in school or district events that promote physical activity and health.
Qualifications:
Enrolled or completed an associates or bachelors program in Physical Education, Early Childhood Education, Kinesiology, or a related field. A passion for working with young children and helping them grow physically, socially, and emotionally. Strong interest in pursuing a career as a physical education teacher for early childhood education. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to personal and professional growth in the field of education. Complete OSSE and DCPS background check.
