DESCRIPTION
General Responsibilities of the Physical Education (PE)
Teacher:
A PE teacher working with individuals with disabilities at The Arc of South Florida will create an adaptive and safe environment, tailor teaching methods to meet unique needs, provide opportunities for physical development, and promote physical fitness and cooperation. Creativity, flexibility, and commitment to inclusion are crucial for success.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED. Associate or Bachelor's Degree preferred in Physical Education or related field. Experience in sports and physical fitness activities. Experience with individuals with disabilities preferred. Level 2 Background check and drug test. Authorization to work in the USA. Must be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance. Duties - including but not limited to:
Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide physical education classes in Florida City ACE Academy to elementary through high school age individuals with a range of disabilities. Implement a curriculum that includes physical fitness exercises, sports activities, coordination development, healthy habits and nutrition. Gather the necessary equipment and materials before each class. Organize physical fitness events or sports days for family engagement. Maintain sports equipment in an organized fashion. Request any new needed equipment or supplies through the Principal. Support inclusion of moderate to vigorous physical activity into each lesson. Perform other functions, as directed, relevant to the position Page 1 of 2
The Arc of South Florida/ACE Academy Position:
PE Teacher Interactions with children: Use developmentally appropriate practices Maintain a fun and supportive atmosphere that encourages students to participate at their own comfort and skill level.
Interactions with staff:
Cooperate with teachers and support staff including Principal, Assistant Principal, therapists and teacher assistants. Follow therapists' recommendations for best practices in positioning and implementation of the therapeutic activities during the PE lesson.
Trainings:
Complete initial orientation provided by the program Participate in ongoing in service trainings
Policies and Procedures:
Follow all agency policies and procedures Safety - Follow all agency safety and security policies and procedures. Report accidents, injuries and unsafe work conditions to the Principal or Director of Children and Youth. Ensure personal appearance is professional and clean Maintain student confidentiality Maintain Agency confidentiality
