Category Schools - Adaptive Physical Education Teacher Job Type Contract Embrace a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact as an Adaptive Physical Education (APE) specialist, supporting middle school students district-wide in the vibrant Springfield, MA area. For the 2026/2027 school year, this contract role offers the chance to deliver both direct services and consultative support to empower students who require adapted PE, all within a flexible part-time schedule of approximately 2-2.5 days per week.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Valid Adaptive Physical Education certification/licensure (where applicable) Demonstrated experience working in school settings, ideally with middle school populations Expertise in supporting students with disabilities in adaptive PE environments Excellent communication, collaboration, time management, and organizational skills Ability to travel between district middle school campuses with reliable transportation Promptness and professionalism, including clear procedures for absence notification Successful background/CORI check, fingerprinting, and drug screening
Key Responsibilities:
Provide adaptive physical education services to a selected caseload of middle school students Consult and collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student progress Adapt and develop meaningful PE activities and curricula to foster inclusion and engagement Monitor and document student development, updating plans as needed Travel throughout the district delivering services and building connections across campuses This role is perfect for professionals who thrive in dynamic K-12 settings, enjoy working collaboratively, and are passionate about helping students of all abilities participate fully in physical education.
