Overview:

Health and Physical Education Teachers are responsible for fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes students' health and physical literacy. These educators support students in developing the knowledge, confidence, and skills necessary for lifelong wellness, in alignment with SHAPE America's definitions:

Health Literacy:

The ability to access information, resources, and services to maintain and promote health.

Physical Literacy:

The confidence, competence, and motivation to be physically active for life. Strong candidates will: Demonstrate deep pedagogical and content knowledge in Health and Physical Education by designing and delivering skills-based instruction aligned with the Massachusetts Comprehensive Health and Physical Education Framework, using Understanding by Design (UbD) to support application and lifelong wellness. Design inclusive, student-centered learning experiences using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure access, engagement, and meaningful participation for all learners. Use authentic, performance-based assessments to measure students' application of skills within health and physical education concepts, using this evidence to inform instruction and support the development of students' health and physical literacy. Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that promotes collaboration and the development of perseverance, problem solving, and effective communication. Effectively integrate technology and multimedia tools to enhance instruction, assessment, and student engagement in both health and physical education settings. Collaborate with colleagues and support staff to design and enhance equitable, high-quality health and physical education experiences across the school and district, while contributing to a culture of professional growth. Teach effectively across a variety of settings—including fitness, team activities, and lifetime and outdoor pursuits—while making effective use of available facilities and resources to support student learning. Job Requirements:

MA licensure in Health, Family & Consumer Science (All Levels) and Physical Education (5-12) Master's degree preferred in Health and/or Physical Education or a related concentration Citizenship, residency or work visa required Learn More Work for Westford!
