Energizing the Middle Years In Ferguson-Florissant, we believe that an active body is essential to a focused mind—especially during the high-energy middle school years. We are seeking a dynamic, high-energy Middle School PE Teacher to join our "New Chapter." You aren't just "throwing out dodgeballs"; you are building a lifetime foundation for health, teaching our 7th and 8th graders how to collaborate, handle victory and defeat with grace, and discover physical activities they will love long after they leave our gyms. Role Summary The Middle School PE Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive, standards-aligned physical education and health curriculum. Reporting to the Building Principal, you will lead students through fitness assessments, cooperative games, and individual and team sports. You will cultivate a safe, high-energy environment where students of all athletic abilities feel welcomed, challenged, and supported in their personal wellness goals. Why You'll Succeed (Qualifications)
Certified Professional:
Valid Missouri Teaching Certification in K-12 or 5-9 Physical Education required. (Dual certification in Health Education preferred).
Adolescent Expert:
You understand the unique physical, social, and emotional changes occurring in 11-to-14-year-olds and know how to channel that energy positively.
Master of Inclusion:
Proven ability to modify sports and fitness plans so that every student—regardless of physical ability or experience—can participate safely and successfully.
Safety & First Aid Expert:
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (or immediate willingness to obtain) with a strict commitment to facility and equipment safety protocols.
Collaborative Team Player:
Exceptional communication skills to partner with health teachers, coaches, and building administrators. Your Impact (Key Duties)
Instructional Energy:
Design and facilitate engaging units in team sports, lifetime fitness activities (like yoga, track, or strength training), and cooperative teamwork challenges.
Fitness Advocacy:
Guide students through fitness testing metrics, helping them set, track, and achieve personal health and wellness goals.
Social-Emotional Coaching:
Use the gym and athletic fields as classrooms for character, explicitly teaching sportsmanship, leadership, and conflict resolution.
Safe Environment Oversight:
Maintain proactive supervision of gym floors, outdoor fields, and locker room transition areas to guarantee student safety and emotional well-being.
Equipment Stewardship:
Manage, sanitize, and inventory all physical education equipment, ensuring resources are treated with respect and stored securely.
School-Wide Wellness:
Support school-wide health initiatives, field days, and intramural structures that connect physical health to the broader campus culture.

Work Year:

Salary:
Based on the Teacher Salary Schedule (commensurate with education, experience, and certifications).
