PE & Health Teacher (Founding High School) | Jersey City, NJ

Located in Jersey City, NJ, ideal for educators who live locally or currently commute into NYC and are looking for a closer, more sustainable school community. This is a full-time, on site role designed for educators with experience teaching high school PE/Health or middle school PE/Health who are ready to step into a high school setting. This role is for the 2026-27 school year and will begin in August 2026. We opened our doors to 66 6th grade students in 2023 in Jersey City, NJ, and we will continue adding one grade each year until we are a full 6th-12th grade school. As a Founding PE & Health Teacher , you will play a pivotal role in launching our high school program, helping to define the culture and fitness/health standards for our inaugural 9th-grade class. We are seeking a passionate educator who is excited to build deep relationships with students, design purpose-driven creative learning experiences, and coach young people as they develop confidence, voice, and creative habits of mind. This role blends instructional excellence, student coaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The Physical Education Teacher & Student Coach reports to the Director of Learning. As a Physical Education & Health Teacher and Student Coach at Kindle Education, you will play many roles. We believe education is best done as a team sport and that we accomplish exponentially more through collaboration. As a Physical Education & Health Teacher , you will lead active, inclusive classes where students develop physical literacy, fitness, and teamwork while also building knowledge and skills related to personal health and wellness. You will design instruction that integrates movement, health education, and reflection, emphasizing topics such as goal-setting, nutrition, mental health, stress management, and healthy habits. Students will build confidence, resilience, and self-awareness while connecting physical activity and health to overall well-being. You will collaborate with the 9th grade teaching team and colleagues across subject areas to design and facilitate interdisciplinary, project-based learning experiences that connect wellness to real-world challenges. As a Student Coach , you will facilitate a daily advisory class and partner with families to guide a small group of students as they find their spark, develop social-emotional and metacognitive skills, set goals for life and learning, and build a sense of purpose. Through advisory sessions, one-on-one coaching, family communication, and progress and data tracking, you will ensure students receive the support they need to demonstrate consistent growth. As a learner and team member , you will set personalized professional goals with the support of a coach and your peers, modeling the self-directed growth we expect from our students. By proactively supporting colleagues and pitching in where needed, you will help create an environment where everyone feels valued and supported.
