Thomas Charter School (MPTCS) is the largest independently-operated free public charter school in Newark, NJ. MPTCS was established in 1999 by a group of individuals who were born and raised in Newark and wanted to provide the best possible educational experience for the next generation of Newarkers. The school is one of the only minority-led charter schools in Newark, reflecting both its student population and the community it serves. MPTCS has grown from four classrooms to four campuses and now serves 1,500 students from prekindergarten through 12th grade. Physical Education Teacher (High School) We are currently seeking a High School Physical Education Teacher who is passionate about the school's mission of preparing all scholars to be college and career ready, globally aware, and fully equipped to lead in an evolving society. This is a full-time position and reports to the school's Principal. For this role, the Physical Education Teacher will be responsible for but not limited to: Works to achieve district educational goals and objectives by promoting active learning in the classroom using board adopted curriculum and other appropriate learning activities. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. Monitors student academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives of instruction. Maintains records of student's educational progress Plans class activities and lesson presentations that are age-appropriate for the class and meet the individual needs, interests, and ability levels of all pupils. Participates in school level planning, faculty meetings/committees Makes effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program. Upholds and enforces the campus rules, administrative regulations, and board policy. Performs other duties which may be within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned.
