This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating instructional programs in physical education and health for students in grades Kindergarten through Grade 12. The K-12 Physical Education and Health Teacher provides developmentally appropriate instruction aligned to Oregon State Standards to promote physical fitness, motor skill development, health literacy, and lifelong healthy habits. The teacher is responsible for planning and delivery of instruction that enables students to benefit from their educational experiences while maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment across all grade levels.Job Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
BA/BS or higher degree (required) with a major in one or more of the following areas: Physical Education, Health Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Human Development, Education, or similar. Demonstrated ability or experience working with students across multiple grade levels preferred. Must hold a current recognized first aid card or be willing to obtain underORS 342.664

Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability Valid Oregon Teaching License and endorsement(s) from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon with required endorsements for Physical Education and Health Successfully pass district background screening Current CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtainKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching methods across elementary, middle, and high school grade levels. Knowledge of Oregon Physical Education and Health Education Standards and instructional practices. Knowledge of developmental progression of motor skills and health education competencies across grades K-12. Knowledge of current concepts, methods, and procedures for curriculum development and implementation. Knowledge of laws, rules, policies, and trends regarding student health, wellness, and physical education programs. Knowledge of human development, learning theory, behavior management, and communication techniques appropriate for students of varying ages. Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, and evaluate performance. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, and the public. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed and basic written or oral instructions. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs. Ability to plan and implement lessons based on district and school objectives, as well as the ability to address the needs and abilities of students across grades K-12. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and school board policies, as well as Oregon law and administrative rule.Essential Job Functions:
Plan and implement physical education and health instruction aligned with Oregon State Standards for students in grades K-12. Develop lesson plans that address developmentally appropriate physical skills, fitness concepts, and health knowledge across grade levels. Provide instruction in health topics including nutrition, personal safety, substance abuse prevention, mental health awareness, human growth and development, and personal wellness consistent with district curriculum. Use identified student and group needs to plan instruction appropriate to multiple grade levels. Ensure that instructional plans are sequenced and aligned with established content standards identified by the District across grades K-12. Develop goals for all students based on previous or current data. Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of student achievement and participation across grade levels. Use a variety of effective instructional methods and materials to implement instructional plans appropriate to developmental levels. Determine the effectiveness of specific instructional strategies regarding the achievement of all students. Make and track progress toward instructional and professional goals using established action plans, milestones, and timelines. Manage instructional environments to create optimum learning conditions and ensure student safety during physical activities at all grade levels. Demonstrate and teach proper techniques, rules, and safety procedures for physical activities and sports. Inspect and maintain equipment and facilities to ensure safe and appropriate use across elementary, middle, and high school settings. Modify activities and instruction to meet diverse physical abilities, developmental levels, and health needs of students. Encourage positive student behavior and promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for others. Provide supervision of students in locker rooms, gymnasiums, outdoor areas, and other assigned locations. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and participation. Initiate and maintain communication with colleagues, including engaging in effective problem-solving regarding professional issues. Collaborate with staff to promote school-wide wellness and health initiatives across grade levels. Participate in school safety planning and emergency response procedures as assigned. Plan, coordinate, and supervise volunteers, instructional assistants, and other paraprofessionals as assigned. Assist in the assessment of building-level needs and the planning required to meet those needs. Attend meetings and serve on committees as directed to assist with program and curricular coordination. Actively participate in professional development activities to maintain knowledge and skills related to physical education, health instruction, and student wellness across grade levels. Supervise students in and out of instructional settings. Maintain confidentiality of student, family, staff, and school records. Maintain accurate inventories of instructional materials and equipment. Support district initiatives related to student health, physical fitness, and wellness education. Implement district policies and procedures related to student safety and health instruction.
