The teacher creates a positive, respectful learning environment and delivers a health and physical education curriculum that aligns with academic standards, IEP goals, and the mission of the Rhode Island School for the Deaf. The teacher promotes student achievement, physical well-being, and lifelong healthy habits through rigorous, relevant, and inclusive instruction.
Daily ExpectationsCreate and deliver a health and physical education curriculum that establishes and maintains a positive learning climate incorporating rigor and relevancePlan, develop, and implement lesson plans and provide instruction for individual students, small groups, and remedial instruction to meet identified student needsAssess student learning using a variety of appropriate formal and informal assessment methodsUse assessment data to inform instructional planning and instructional adjustmentsApply best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment to support and extend student learningPrepare, administer, and correct examinations; proctor assessments; and provide substitute services as assignedParticipate in the IEP process as requiredManage daily recording and publishing of student attendance and grades using the school platformParticipate in customary conferences with students and parents and provide individual guidance to studentsServe on school committees as assignedParticipate in professional development activities to remain current in assigned teaching fields, instructional practices, and remote learning deliveryAttend professional development activities as mandated by the PrincipalProvide synchronous and asynchronous remote learning instruction when directed or per teaching assignmentUse student data to inform decision-making, develop and modify curriculum, and implement targeted and differentiated instruction, including interventions and enrichmentImplement school-adopted curricular resourcesAssist with the creation, completion, and presentation of required school and district reportsDetermine curricular, assessment, and instructional resource needs and communicate ordering needsCommunicate school and district programs, policies, and procedures to students, staff, parents, and the community as directedPerform other related duties as assigned to support the effective functioning of the school
