Job Description

A grades K-8 Physical Education Teacher in a Tennessee public school implements sequential, standards-based curriculum. They develop age-appropriate lesson plans, assess student progress, and promote lifelong fitness. Additionally, they manage equipment, ensure a safe learning environment, and foster students' physical, mental, and social development.
Core Responsibilities CurriculumInstruction:
Deliver physical education adhering to the Tennessee Academic Standards for Physical Education. This includes developing motor skills, cooperative games, rhythm, dance, and team/individual sports.
Assessment:
Evaluate student performance regularly and report on their cognitive, affective, and psychomotor progress.
Classroom Management:
Maintain an engaging, inclusive, and safe environment for all students.
Equipment Management:
Setup, maintain, take down, and safely store athletic equipment and physical materials.
Collaboration:
Work with general education teachers, special education staff, and school administration to support overall student well-being
QualificationsRequirements Licensure:
Must hold a valid Tennessee Department of Education teaching license. The specific endorsement code will depend on the district's grade configuration, commonly requiring an endorsement in Physical Education (e.g., K-12 or relevant elementary/middle endorsements). Physical Demands Ability to demonstrate sports skills and movement concepts. Ability to frequently lift and carry heavy instructional and athletic equipment (often up to 50 lbs). High energy to actively supervise and engage with multiple classes throughout the day, both indoors in gymnasiums and outdoors on athletic fields.
