The ideal candidate will bring energy and expertise both to the classroom and to the field, as this position includes coaching responsibilities for one to two sports throughout the school year. General Responsibilities for PE Teacher Plan, demonstrate and implement curriculum that teaches the understanding of exercise, fitness, healthy eating, body function and skills in a manner that is age-appropriate (grades PreK through Sixth Grade) Work to develop strength, agility, skill and coordination in individual and team activities in accordance with each student's ability through sports-related skills, movement patterns, games and fitness activities Assist students in performing skills taught Set up, inspect and monitor necessary equipment prior to class and take down after class Provide a learning atmosphere that is Christ-centered, exciting, engaging and encouraging Supervise students whether in the gymnasium, playground, cafeteria, outside or in a classroom Provide an excellent learning experience for the students that create an environment that fosters growth and learning Assess fitness levels of students on a quarterly basis Monitor and evaluate student's progress Maintain student records of progress and attendance Prepare information on each student for parent/teacher conferences Prepare for Mini-School night for Lower School Communicate with parents as needed Establish and enforce rules of conduct/behavior for the classroom/gymnasium Work with Team Leader and Lower and Middle Administration in implementing Physical Education goals and curriculum May be asked to help with Lower School Field Day Attend department, divisional and all-staff meetings as required Participate in fire, evacuation and emergency drills as required General Responsibilities for Coaching This will vary based upon the sport(s) that you are assigned to Education, Experience and Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or related field Experience coaching Middle and/or Upper School students Prior experience teaching physical education in a Christian school environment is a plus Agree and support TCA's Christian values and Biblical Statements and Policies Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements Eye-hand, mind-eye coordination, physical dexterity Normal physical demands of teaching physical education and coaching Night and weekend hours required Ability to demonstrate the relevant skills and techniques to students Ability to stand, squat, sit, jump, reach, kneel and move equipment up to 30 lbs. Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong organization skills Ability to effectively manage students Analytical thinker and planner
