Open Until Filled Postdoctoral Scholar / Research Professor in Experimental Plasma Physics Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, South Korea The Fusion and Plasma Dynamics Laboratory in the Department of Nuclear and Quantum Engineering at KAIST invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar or Research Professor position in experimental plasma physics. Position Description The selected candidate will join the fusion plasma research group at KAIST, working under the supervision of Prof. Choongki Sung. The position is initially for two years, with the possibility of extension for up to an additional two years. The successful candidate will be involved in the development and operation of experimental systems for the KAIST mirror device (KAIMIR), as well as experimental studies of mirror-confined plasmas. Research topics include plasma diagnostics, wave-plasma interactions, and fast-ion physics. Candidates with expertise in modeling and simulation related to these topics are also encouraged to apply, particularly those interested in close integration with experimental research. Research Environment and Opportunities The Fusion and Plasma Dynamics Laboratory at KAIST is developing the KAIST Mirror (KAIMIR) device as a versatile platform for both fusion-relevant physics and divertor/SOL studies. The device enables controlled investigations of neutral beam heating, fast-ion confinement, and detachment in a linear geometry. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to: Play a leading role in the development of a growing experimental platform Design and implement advanced plasma diagnostics Contribute to cutting-edge research on mirror confinement, fast-ion physics, and plasma-surface interaction Collaborate with major fusion programs and institutions in Korea and internationally This position offers a high level of research independence and the opportunity to take ownership of key experimental systems and research directions. Salary The starting salary is approximately $30,000-$40,000 per year , depending on qualifications and experience. Salary increases are expected upon securing additional project funding and based on performance.
