Sensitive Position No Job Description Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board. Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses. Virginia Western, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for Adjunct Faculty to provide classroom instruction for Paramedic courses in the School of Health Professions. Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching discipline and in trends in community college education. The Paramedic Adjunct Faculty position provides education and training support to students in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) programs at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) and Paramedic levels. This role involves delivering comprehensive educational support, including the instruction of psychomotor skills vital for effective EMS practice. The instructor will evaluate student performance in the lab setting to ensure proficiency in essential skills and procedures, prepare and organize instructional materials and resources for lab sessions, and cultivate a positive learning environment that promotes student engagement and success. Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's/Required Qualifications Minimum of an Associates degree required; The applicant must have excellent computer applications proficiency; a professional healthcare credential of Paramedic(s); at least two years experience in emergency medicine / prehospital care; knowledgeable about methods of instruction, testing, and evaluation of students; knowledgeable in the current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Education Standards National Registry of EMTs Nationally Registered Paramedic certification and Virginia Paramedic certification. All adjunct faculty positions require excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
