Job Summary:
American Child Care Centers (ACC #52) is seeking a qualified and experienced Child Care Center Director to oversee the daily operations of our licensed child care center in Phoenix, Arizona. This leadership role is responsible for staff management, licensing compliance, program quality, financial accuracy, and overall center operations. The Director ensures full compliance with Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES), CACFP, and company policies while maintaining a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily operations of the licensed child care center Ensure full compliance with ADHS child care licensing regulations, DES requirements, CACFP guidelines, and company policies Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate teaching and support staff Ensure proper staffing and coverage during all operating hours Implement and oversee curriculum consistent with developmentally appropriate practices Maintain a safe, clean, and healthy environment for children and staff Serve as the primary contact for parents, licensors, inspectors, and auditors Address parent concerns professionally and in a timely manner Ensure accurate billing, invoicing, and posting of parent payments in Procare Maintain complete and accurate alternate billing and payment records when Procare is unavailable or experiencing system issues Reconcile billing and payment records to ensure financial accuracy and accountability Maintain accurate enrollment, attendance, CACFP, financial, and licensing records Conduct and attend staff meetings and required trainings Act as a mandatory reporter and follow Arizona child abuse reporting laws Manage CACFP responsibilities including income eligibility approvals, recordkeeping, monthly claims, and audit cooperation Be available for licensing visits, audits, emergencies, and operational needs Perform other duties as assigned to support center operations
Required Skills and Competencies:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to supervise staff, resolve conflicts, and maintain a professional work environment. Strong organizational and time-management skills are required, with attention to detail in licensing, attendance, CACFP, and financial records. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to interact effectively with parents, staff, licensors, and auditors. The Director must be able to interpret and apply ADHS regulations, DES requirements, and CACFP guidelines, manage multiple priorities, and respond calmly and professionally in compliance-driven or high-pressure situations. Proficiency with Procare or similar child care management software, basic computer skills, and financial recordkeeping is required. Reliability, accountability, sound judgment, and the ability to lead by example are essential. Minimum Qualifications (ADHS Required): Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and meet ONE of the following Arizona ADHS Director qualification options: 24 months of child care experience, a high school diploma or GED, and either:
- Six or more college credit hours in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field; OR
- 60 hours of early childhood instruction plus 12 hours of administration, planning, or management training 18 months of child care experience and either:
- A nationally recognized credential (NAC, CDA, or CCP); OR
- At least 24 college credit hours including early childhood coursework Six months of child care experience and an associate degree in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field Three months of child care experience and a bachelor's degree in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field
