Job Purpose The Early Childhood Director is responsible for developing and maintaining a safe, nurturing program for preschool-aged children, ensuring compliance with Michigan state guidelines, and promoting developmental learning. Key Responsibilities Program Oversight Lead and supervise all early childhood programs. Collaborate with before- and after-school care. Ensure adherence to state licensing requirements and best practices in early childhood education. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent. Staff Management Recruit, hire, train, and supervise preschool staff. Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities. Foster a positive work environment and promote staff collaboration. Curriculum Implementation Develop and oversee a developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets children's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs. Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and make necessary adjustments. Administrative Duties Manage budget and financial resources for early childhood programs. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including health and safety standards. Prepare reports for the Superintendent and other stakeholders. Community Relations Communicate effectively with parents and the community about program goals and student progress. Foster positive relationships with community organizations and stakeholders. Promote early childhood programs to increase enrollment and community involvement. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). Must meet state requirements for program directors, including completion of child care administration courses. Experience Minimum of five years in early childhood education, with at least three years in an administrative role. Proven experience in grant management and knowledge of the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is desirable. Skills Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage budgets and ensure fiscal responsibility. Knowledge of Michigan child care licensing rules and early childhood standards. Essential Functions Maintain a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment. Oversee the implementation of a high-quality curriculum and monitor student progress. Provide training and support for staff to ensure effective teaching practices. Collaborate with special education teams to support inclusive practices.
