POSITION SUMMARY
The primary role of the Maternal & Early Childhood Specialist is to develop strong relationships with families to provide service coordination, support and training to assist families in meeting the needs of their children and enhancing parents' role as the primary influence on their child's education and development.
Family Support Specialist Responsibilities:
The Maternal & Early Childhood Specialistwill be responsible for providing routine home visits, primarily occurring within the family's home; each home visit should last for at least one hour Develop a trusting relationship with families by providing strength-based family-centered interventions that assist in enhancing the parent-child relationship, build upon parenting skills and improve the family support system Have an acceptance of individual differences Assist families in establishing goals and a plan for accomplishing those goals Complete routine screenings and provide referrals as needed to support family needs Use evidence-based curriculum and practices to assess effectiveness with the target population Complete documentation and weekly notes for each family served; notes must be completed by the end of the week Maintain client confidentiality Maintain an up-to-date calendar of appointments Participate in all required training for ongoing professional development Participate in all required cross-training assigned by the Family Resource Center to ensure staffing needs are being met in all programs Attending staff meetings as scheduled Attend and engage in weekly reflective supervision with supervisor Willingness to engage in building reflective capacity Adhere to Family Resource Center policies and procedures as set by the
Board of Directors Skills:
Experience in working with or providing services to children and their families that embrace the concepts of family-centered and strength-based service provision Experience and willingness to work with the culturally diverse populations present among the site's target population Knowledge of infant and child development Have a working knowledge of computers and computer programs that enhance service delivery Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a wide range of individuals, including program participants, representatives of funders, agency staff, community' service providers and the general public to effectively promote program services Ability to establish trusting relationships
Education:
Minimum high school diploma
