Job Description

The Center Director is responsible for planning, supervising, and managing Head Start/Early Head Start education and child development services for children and families and directing and administering of Center programs, providing vision and leadership to program activities.
Requirement:
B.S. degree in elementary/early childhood education and minimum of two years demonstrated supervisory/ management experience. Willing to become knowledgeable regarding Head Start philosophy, OCFS regulations, and the community we serve. Capacity to embrace the role of the parent as the primary educator of the child and promote and support attachment between parent and child. Exhibits leadership ability and good interpersonal/communication skills. Job requires traveling within area served by the program. Must have valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
Responsibilities include:
Serves as Director on the OCFS License, and works with the Head Start/Early Head Start Director to complete re-licensing applications. Supervises Early Head Start Teachers at the center. Manages daily program operations at the site, and is involved in daily operations to ensure compliance with Early Head Start Performance Standards specifically 1304, 1305, 1306, and 1307 Standards. Works with the Child Care Specialist to arrange for substitute coverage when teachers are out of the classroom. Oversees the reporting of school readiness, health and safety, CACFP, and attendance at the center, and provides reports to the appropriate program coordinator. Assigns volunteers to classrooms and program activities at the center, and provides training and technical assistance as needed. Reads and distributes information about child development, education, and school readiness to direct service staff. Maintains health and safety at the HS/EHS Center. Assists staff in acquiring the appropriate attitudes, skills, and knowledge required to function effectively. Attends relevant training sessions and shares information. Attends Head Start supervisors', individual meetings, and monthly Center Director Meetings. Assists the HS/EHS Director and HS/EHS Coordination Team with program planning activities including program start-up activities each year. Participates in annual Community Assessment process. Participates in the annual program self-assessment, and oversees the service area assessment process. Prepares accurate, confidential, and prompt documentation of site activities, written reports, minutes, plans, procedures, and surveys.
