JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE:
Director of Early Childhood and Elementary Education
FLSA:
Exempt
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work directly with elementary principals to support the effective implementation of curriculum/instructional programs and best practices in teaching and learning. Works with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and the Director of Secondary Education to coordinate all district professional learning. Works with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction on District and Elementary School Strategic Planning. Works with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction on the implementation and certification of Visible Learning at the elementary school level. Coordination and leadership in the development and improvement of the elementary schools in the district, with an emphasis on academic achievement. Directs, coordinates, and maintains the Title I program. Facilitate and monitor academic and summer assistance programs. Work with principals to disaggregate and analyze assessment data to support instructional planning. Assist with the budgeting process at the school and District levels. Coordinate Physical Education (elementary), Health (elementary), and GT programs. Coordinate and lead the planning efforts for the District's Growth and Wellness program. PADEPP Principal Evaluation Team Member Attends SCASA Elementary Roundtable Meetings Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction or the Superintendent.

EARLY CHILDHOOD RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides leadership in the implementation of instructional practices, delivery systems, and formative assessments that maximize student growth in early childhood (ESGI, TLTs, MYIGDIS). Assists with the curriculum renewal and evaluation process for the 4K curriculum and other early childhood initiatives. Facilitate professional development for early childhood teachers and early childhood initiatives. Support the implementation of CERDEP instructional requirements. Provide classroom observations and feedback to 4K and 5K teachers. Attend Early Childhood Roundtable meetings and other state-level training and meetings related to early childhood. Facilitate training for all 4K and 5K required diagnostic and readiness assessments. Support the district's Early Childhood Parent Liaison. Assist and coordinate plans and supports for 4K students as they transition to 5K
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
(Shared with Director of Secondary Education) Coordinates staff development opportunities in and out of the district (conferences, workshops, etc.) Assists schools in the effective implementation of high-impact Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) Coordinates and provides district-wide professional development regarding the district's instructional focus, including the Visible Teaching and Learning Academy and Canvas courses. Maintains the Spartanburg 2 Professional Development website and calendar, posting opportunities throughout the calendar year, including all core instructional software and needed graduate courses Coordinates the planning of District Collegial PD Days (4 days each year) with members of the Instruction Team Facilitates Assistant Principals' Instruction PD and Seminars monthly Maintains PD Express (add teachers, courses, and renewal credits for all PD) Facilitates professional development and monitors district usage of the Instruction Hub - SCLearn EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Valid South Carolina Elementary Principal Certificate Master's Degree or higher Successful experience as an elementary or middle school principal Experience in a Title I school Minimum five (5) years of successful teaching experience Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development and instructional implementation

Knowledge:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
Working Conditions:
Office environment with no exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to general office activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to ten pounds. Routine local travel required; occasional overnight travel required. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and meeting deadlines. Duties of the job require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.
