Job Description

Direct and supervise the daily activities of the Active Lifestyle Center (ALC). Manage the daily operations of Meals on Wheels routes in the center's service area. Assist with activity coordination for other ALC sites. Recruit and administer volunteers under the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Reports to the Nutrition Programs Manager/ RSVP Director. Supervise Title V part-time workers/ALC Assistants in the center and volunteer drivers for Meals on Wheels.
Schedule:
24 hours/week Essential functions Direct the daily activities of ALC (40%). Centers are open 3 or 5 days a week depending on location. Oversee daily operations in the Center (e.g. set-up, clean up, care, activities, meal preparation). Develop/lead innovative activities to meet the needs and abilities of participants (e.g. physical fitness, crafts, nutrition education, newsletters, guest speakers). Handle ordering of food and supplies necessary to running the center. Ensure congregates meals served at the center follow DARS guidelines for food preparation. Direct the work of Title V workers/ALC Assistants daily. Ensure their timesheets are accurately completed each week. Conduct their annual performance evaluation. Meals on Wheels (40%) . Coordinates delivery routes and volunteers to ensure on-time delivery of meals to all recipients in compliance with DARS guidelines (e.g. timeframe and temperatures). Conduct annual reassessment of eligibility for all recipients via phone. Administration (10%). Accurately complete and submit required monthly reports to Admin Support. Market center activities in the community. Participate in local groups geared towards seniors such as TRIAD. Create and maintain center participants' files and review all annually. RSVP Coordinator (10%). Recruits and handles in-take paperwork for volunteers under RSVP. Develop new volunteer assignments and stations in coordination with RSVP Director. Assist with the planning and organization of RSVP-sponsored events in the center, including volunteer recognition, fundraisers and Advisory Council meetings. Provides volunteer supervision and training. Compile timesheets for volunteers monthly and send to RSVP manager.
DECISION MAKING
Performs large number of tasks and coordinates many activities. Handle all daily activities in the center independently. Involve supervisor when faced with an unusual situation (e.g. uncertain if a Meals on Wheels participant is still eligible) or faced with a difficult situation (e.g. handling a confrontational participant). Inform supervisor when a complaint is expressed by a volunteer or a center participant.
KNOWLEDGE
Has knowledge of: HIPAA regulations relevant to ALC operations. Microsoft Office programs (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail). Bay Aging corporate policies and procedures related to Active Lifestyle Centers.
ABILITIES
Take charge for all aspects of the Center operations. Communicate in small groups and one on one with a variety of people from seniors to outside speakers and vendors. Establish and maintain positive relationships with center participants even in difficult circumstances. Be observant of changes in the physical and emotional conditions of participants to identify changing support needs and services. Establish and maintain relationships in the community to raise the profile of the ALC and its services. Supervise and counsel staff and volunteers to maintain professional, caring and safe environment in the center at all times.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Office-based position with minimal physical requirements (ability to lift 15lbs, walking and climbing stairs). Requires regular occasional independent travel around the county and to Bay Aging Offices. None of the essential functions of the position can be performed virtually. Requires a High School diploma and 3 to 5 years of experience in the field of activity coordination, senior care, disability care management or early childhood education center management. Must possess a valid driver's license.
