Job Description

Classroom Teacher
POSITION SUMMARY
The Classroom Teacher is responsible for the academic, social-emotional growth and development of all children in their care, which may include toddlers and/or preschool age children; develops partnerships with parents/child's caregiver to engage and encourage parent participation in program. Staff must believe in and act in accordance with both the Agency's and the program's mission statements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Be present and consistent each day. Greet each parent and child upon arrival and departure. Develop/Follow weekly lesson plans and implement age-appropriate curriculum to nurture and stimulate all domains of children's development in their care and upload plans to Google drive weekly. Modify weekly lesson plans and implement curriculum to address the individual needs of each child. Provide a developmentally appropriate environment that reflects children's learning and growth. Perform on-going developmental evaluations of children as required by funding sources. Supervise bathroom procedures and assist in toileting routine and accidents. Eat with children and facilitate mealtime activities. Play, talk, and interact with children during center time. Have the classroom and supplies ready at the beginning of each day. Prepare developmental progress reports as needed. Conduct daily observations and notes, incorporating the paraprofessional in the process. Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for the child's background by incorporating the cultural, linguistic and familial values and beliefs into the childcare program and lesson plans. Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents/caregivers. Encourage family participation and ensure that each family receives an opportunity to build strong relationships and experience clear communication with teaching staff. Maintain family and agency confidentiality, restricting information to those with the need to know. Keep proper child portfolios. Plan periodical parent conferences to discuss children's developmental progress, needs and interests. Liaison with children's families to ensure smooth transition from home to child care setting and transitions from classroom to classroom when needed. Assist families with transitioning children to next age group or kindergarten. Maintain accurate, complete and timely client and agency records, including daily meal and attendance, emergency forms, curriculum plans, and individual child development profile. Report all reasonable suspicions of child abuse or neglect to the Arkansas Child Abuse Hotline. Complete daily health checks regarding hygiene, safety, and overall well-being of the children. environment indicators as well as CLASS Om. Assures a healthy, safe, clean and developmentally appropriate environment for children. Perform daily classroom cleaning, trash, table and toy sanitation, cot and sheet preparation, bathroom and naptime cleaning. Be able to lead and supervise the paraprofessional. Attend all staff trainings and parent meetings. Participates in ongoing in-service and educational development opportunities provided by agency and obtains the required professional development hours annually. Execute and/or assist with other prescribed tasks in addition to duties listed on this job description, in accordance with WACD "team" philosophy.
EDUCATION
Minimum of an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education/related field or Child Development Associate credential.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Early Child Development knowledge and experience. Knowledge in Desired Results, Developmentally Appropriate Practices. Knowledge of State Subsidized Program Requirements for Center Programs. Good communication, problem-solving, and priority-setting skills, as well as maintaining an overall positive and professional attitude/disposition. Ability to use the computer to input developmental data. Ability to make decisions on behalf of children and protect their well-being. Must be able to manage confidential information. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 50 pound child. All employees, regardless of position, serve as role models for children and adolescents who are served by our agency. The staff must be able to demonstrate appropriate daily behavior, appropriate expression of emotions, as well as appropriate role modeling. Hostility, aggression and unnecessary or inappropriate physical actions as well as inappropriate emotional expression, are not acceptable.
