POSITION SUMMARY
The Learn Grow Thrive Specialty Instructor (Grant) is responsible for supporting the delivering of daily curriculum that promotes continued learning and academic achievement in a fun, creative, and positive manner that aligns with the Y's core values of caring, respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, and citizenship. They are also responsible for leading camp activities following the administering of LGT curriculum. This role is seasonal and will be part of the Learn, Grow, Thrive 5-
Week Summer Camp Program:
June 3rd, 2026 through July 10th 2026.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Always maintain sight and sound supervision of children. Ensures developmentally appropriate adult-child interactions. Plans and implements educational curriculum that provides developmentally appropriate learning activities in literacy to improve a child's reading level and summer reading loss prevention. Create weekly newsletters that reflect and effectively communicate classroom news, updates and vital information for parents. Utilize positive discipline techniques such as re-direction and conflict resolution. Listens and responds to children's needs, encouraging independence and self-help and limiting intervention. Maintain positive relationships with parents, children, and staff daily to foster a positive work and learning environment. Report all supply needs to the Curriculum Leader in a timely manner. All staff meetings and training courses. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and Emergency Action Plan. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Attend staff meetings and training as required. Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management. Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, and Fairness) as well as the YMCA Core Values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff. Demonstrate competencies in and willingness to develop in the Cause Driven Leadership areas of mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness and personal growth. All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
: California Teaching Credential preferred or in process. Bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS
Strong character values; Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills; strong computer skills and a thorough knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
RELATED EXPERIENCE
One-year direct classroom teaching experience along with lesson plan and curriculum development. Knowledge of and experience utilizing student assessment tools. Certification requirements include, within 90 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention ,CPR, First Aid, AED, Blood-borne Pathogens. The ability to communicate with parents, coworkers, campers and visitors in a pleasant and professional manner.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
You must have physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions in both indoor and outdoors settings; exposure to heat, cold and moderate noise levels; and verbal, visual and auditory ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
SAFETY & RISK MANAGEMENT
Adheres to all safety policies, rules and standard operating procedures established by the YMCA. Inspects, corrects and maintains the workstation/environment to ensure it is free from hazards or unsafe conditions. Reports all injuries and accidents, no matter how minor, immediately to the appropriate supervisor. Immediately reports all observed unsafe acts and conditions to the supervisor. Always reports working in an acceptable condition, not under the influence of any substance that could inhibit the ability to work safely or efficiently. Req # 3215
