Women's Empowerment is a community based nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate and empower women who experience homelessness with the skills and the confidence necessary to secure a job, create a healthy lifestyle and regain a home for themselves and their children. Women's Empowerment is the most comprehensive job-readiness program in Sacramento exclusively designed to serve homeless women and their children. Women's Empowerment is dedicated to ending homelessness one woman, one family at a time. Women's Empowerment offers a supportive environment whose employees work as a team to provide the highest quality of services. We use a training infant strength based model in our work and focus on excellence in all of our programs.
Position Overview:
The Childcare Assistantwill be responsible for helping maintain an enriching childcare program for young children of homeless women who are attending on-site job-readiness and training programs. This person will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of the children, while implementing trauma-informed care that supports their physical, emotional, and social development, as well as positive sense of self. The Childcare Assistant will provide responsive care giving in a nurturing and respectful manner as well as maintain the cleanliness and safety of the Child Development Center at all times. Hours will generally be 8:30 AM- 2:30 PM, Monday-Friday, and as needed to support the fluctuating Child Development Center's needs.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 12 ECE (Early Childhood Education units) with at least 1 years' experience working with children in a licensed Childcare Center
  • Demonstrated experience providing high-quality trauma-informed childcare
  • Knowledge of child development theories and practices including trauma-informed care cultural competency
  • Knowledge of safe and appropriate indoor and outdoor activities for children
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with children experience homelessness, parents, volunteers and staff
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm, patience, dependability, punctuality and flexibility
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems and make decisions
  • Understanding and sensitivity to the issues facing women and children, including an understanding of trauma-informed childcare practices
  • Ability to work well as a team member, including with volunteers
  • Ability to lift small children and objects up to 25 pounds
  • Fingerprint and TB clearance necessary (to begin work)
  • CPR certification (including infant CPR) (to begin work)
  • First aid certification (to begin work)
Job Duties:
A. Supervise children in the Child Development Center
  • Ensure children are safe and supervised at all times
  • Provide personalized care to infants and young children in the Child Development Center, while mothers attend class or trainings on-site
  • Provide various, nurturing experiences and activities for children including daily indoor and outdoor games, play, songs and story time
  • Interact with children in a positive and age appropriate manner while creating a warm, happy atmosphere that promotes children's self-esteem
  • Assist with the coordination of child developmental assessments, and implement individually "play-plan" to help children meet this development milestones
  • Assist with meal preparation for the children
  • Attend to the toileting needs of children
  • Provide a conducive environment for regular sleep and rest time
  • Establish routines and provide positive guidance
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable
  • Implement positive discipline when required
  • Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand
  • Identify and report signs of emotional or developmental issues, or any indicators of abuse A. Responsible for self-care and personal development
  • Commitment to learning and enhancing professional and interpersonal skills
  • Model healthy boundaries and self-care.

Stand, walk and sit frequently. Bend and stoop. Licenses Candidates must possess a valid California driver's license and meet the State's automobile insurability requirement. Job offer is contingent upon successful completion of background fingerprint check. Other Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
