Our substitute teachers provide reliable classroom coverage while helping maintain safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environments for young children. As a Preschool Substitute Teacher, you will step into classrooms when regular staff members are absent or additional support is needed. You will follow each program's established routines, lesson plans, policies, and classroom expectations while providing attentive care and maintaining continuity for children and staff. We are looking for educators who are dependable, adaptable, professional, and genuinely enjoy working with young children. This position offers the opportunity to gain experience in different early childhood settings, build professional relationships, and make a meaningful difference in the programs and communities we serve. Duties Provide reliable classroom coverage when regular staff members are absent or additional support is needed. Follow the preschool program's established daily schedule, classroom routines, lesson plans, and policies. Supervise children actively and maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment. Support positive behavior and guide children using developmentally appropriate, respectful interactions. Engage children in age-appropriate learning experiences, play, art, literacy, music, outdoor activities, and other classroom experiences as directed by the program. Assist with daily care routines, including meals, snacks, toileting, diapering, rest time, and transitions, as appropriate for the assigned classroom. Maintain classroom cleanliness and organization and follow all health, sanitation, and safety procedures. Communicate professionally and respectfully with preschool staff, administrators, children, and families. Arrive on time, prepared for each assignment, and maintain dependable attendance for all accepted shifts. Adapt to different classroom environments, age groups, teaching styles, and program expectations while representing Bright Start Subs professionally. Qualifications Minimum of 6 completed Early Childhood Education (ECE) units; 12 or more ECE units preferred. Previous experience working with young children in a preschool, childcare, elementary education, special education, behavioral support, or similar setting preferred. Ability to follow classroom routines, lesson plans, program policies, and directions from site staff and administrators. Ability to actively supervise children and respond appropriately to their developmental, emotional, and physical needs. Dependable, punctual, adaptable, and able to work effectively in different early childhood programs and classroom environments. Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with children, families, preschool staff, and administrators. Ability to meet the physical demands of working in an early childhood classroom, including standing, walking, sitting on the floor, bending, and lifting as required for the position. Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification before accepting assignments. Must meet all applicable California requirements for employment in licensed childcare settings, including required background clearances and health documentation.
