Classroom Teaching Child Development Associate Certification Teaching Early Childhood Education Full Job Description Job Title:
Preschool Teacher Qualifications:
A teacher shall have completed with passing grades a least six postsecondary semester units of specified early childhood education classes, or have a valid Child Development Assistant permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. A teacher hired with six units must complete at least two additional units each semester until fully qualified. A fully qualified teacher shall have 12 postsecondary semester units in early childhood education from an accredited college and six months of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or similar program. The units specified shall include courses covering child growth and development; child, family and community; and program/curriculum. A teacher shall complete 15 hours of health and safety training, if necessary, pursuant to Health and Safety code, Section 1596.866. Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. Meet federal, individual state and Lots of Love Child Care Center's requirements (i.e., TB test, physical, criminal background checks, ability to provide references.
Preferred educational requirements:
Related Degree (Masters, Bachelors or Associates) in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Studies or related field. Unrelated Degree with relevant coursework (at minimum 16 credit hours in ECE) Child Care Certificate or Credentials Verify the following experience requirements: A minimum of two-years, verifiable experience working with young children in a licensed child care facility or family day care home. We cannot consider baby sitting, nanny experience or volunteer work as child care experience. Extensive teaching experience may be substituted for educational requirements, provided a professional development plan is in place. Must be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within first 3 months of employment. Demonstrate knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice and positive interactions with children through an in-classroom interaction. Physical Demands Follow state, federal and Lots of Love Children's Center guidelines including immunizations, employment physical and required safety and health training. Refrain from sleeping on the job or being under the influence of any legal or illegal substance that may impair judgment, alertness, responsiveness or your ability to do your job. Ensure children's safety while performing the following job functions: Frequently lift, move or hold children with a range of weight from 10 to 50 pounds. (may on occasion perform these tasks for a child weighing more than 50 pounds) Daily supervise and interact with a group of children outdoors for an extended period of time in various weather conditions.
