Job Description

Average travel is within 20 miles of the educator's home location.•This position is for the 2026-2027 school year •
Position Overview:
Music for Minors seeks qualified and experienced educators to deliver weekly music lessons to Preschool - 5th grade students in the California Bay Area. Educators will travel to multiple school sites weekly to teach in-person music classes using MFM-provided curriculum and instrument kits. Successful educators possess strong classroom management skills, experience with a variety of student ages and ability levels, a musical background, and a love of working with children.

5-20 hours/week, dependent on available school openings
Scheduling:
2-5 days/week, dependent on available school openings
Work Location:
Primarily in-person at school sites. 2-4 online cohort meetings with Program Manager per month. Sites across the California Bay Area, including: Peninsula (SSF to East Palo Alto)
San Jose Compensation:
$42/hour rate Paid training and professional development, weekly planning time, and sick time Eligible for 401(k) plan after 3 months of employment

Classes End:
April - June of 2026. Dependent on the assigned schedule and the school program length. There will be a limited number of summer teaching opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In The Classroom:
Administer weekly music classes at school sites (20-45 minute class durations) Use MFM-provided curriculum and instrument kits for at least 85% of each lesson Establish and maintain strong relationships with classroom teachers and school administration Follow MFM policies and procedures Promote a love of music in all students
Other Responsibilities:
Use paid planning time to prepare lessons each week Participate in paid online cohort meetings Check MFM-provided email regularly Track the number of lessons taught at each school site Communicate all absences and schedule changes with
Program Manager Qualifications:
Eligibility to work in the US is required. MFM does not sponsor work visas. 2+ years of teaching experience preferred Bachelors Degree Experience as a vocalist or instrumentalist Ability to commit to an entire school year (through June) Comfortable singing songs with a class Skilled in classroom management Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Energetic, flexible, patient, and enthusiastic Background check & TB clearance Passion for Music for Minors mission and love working with elementary school children
Physical Demands:
Ability to lead energetic locomotor and non-locomotor motions with students Ability to transport 10-25lbs of curriculum resources
Work Environment:
Work is primarily performed at school sites, where there is a wide variety of sounds, noises, and temperature environments.
Travel Requirements:
Travel required to school sites on assigned teaching days. Periodic travel to MFM office. Reliable transportation to and between school sites. Average travel is within 20 miles of educator home location. Further travel is only assigned based upon mutual agreement.
